The Vigeland Museum's collection comprises 1 600 sculptures, 12 000 drawings and 400 woodcuts, in addition to pastels, wrought iron works and wood carving works. The collection is the result of an agreement Gustav Vigeland made with the City of Oslo in 1919. He donated all his art to the municipality; in return a studio was built for him. Since 1950, 7 years after Vigeland's death, it has served as a museum for his art.
