104 years after Thorvald Hellesen (1888–1937) opened his first and last exhibition in Norway, the National Museum now brings to the fore his wide-ranging artistry artistic career. The Norwegian artist lived in Paris most of his adult life, and became close friends with Fernand Léger and Constantin Brâncuși, among others. Over a period of 15 years he explored several different directions in cubist art, before he in the mid 1920s left painting to focus on decoration and design commissions.
