Rahul Rao: Past forward / rewind present – the spacetimes of queer sexualities
Welcome to a unique lecture about present readings of the past and future of sexuality in conjunction with ‘Deviant Ornaments'
What are we doing when we turn towards the past to think about the vexed meanings of sexuality? Who is interested in the past and for what purposes? Where and how do we find the past? And if the past is a foreign country, as we are so often told, how does looking at foreign countries become a way of engaging with the pastness of sexuality?
With his book “Out of Time: The Queer Politics of Postcoloniality” (2020) Rahul Rao sought to understand encounters and entanglements across geopolitical divides that produce and contest contemporary queerphobias.
The lecture will be followed by a conversation with exhibition curator Noor Bhangu.
