Opening: Exhibition Opening: Lynn’s Lens
Evolution flows through us as connection. It is, as biologist Lynn Margulis writes, ”all of history”. Essi Kausalainen’s solo exhibition Lynn’s Lens is an interwoven installation presenting large-scale site-specific textile works and a new video piece. The exhibition is inspired and informed by Lynn Margulis’ work, and her research on bacteria and unicellular organisms that changed the scientific understanding of evolutionary processes. Instead of competition, Margulis’ theory emphasizes the significance of collaboration and symbiosis. Introducing the phenomena of symbiogenesis, her work rewrote the history of life.
Essi Kausalainen is a Finnish artist whose works operate through performance, textile, text, audio, and video. Lynn’s Lens is Kausalainen’s first solo show in Norway. The exhibition is curated by Elina Suoyrjö, and extended by a conversation with biologist Erik Joner.
