  • Closed

Kebreab Demeke (b. 1987, Ethiopia) received an MFA in Art and Public Space from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2017 and a BFA with a specialization in painting from ASFAD, Addis Ababa University in 2010.

Kebreab’s art practice often explores shifts in cultural life and political identity in Ethiopia as well as the influence of international experiences over the years. His works seek to unveil and transcribe existing and forgotten knowledge that has changed across generations. The visuals in his works reflect complex historical realities of twentieth and twenty-first century Ethiopia, in relation to contemporary political and cultural contestation in the country and around the globe.

Kebreab creates his artworks across a range of media, including mixed media painting, printmaking, performance, and installation.
