The work for the exhibition is grounded in a simple—and naturally vague—idea of ​​exchange: of displacement and the space in between. The intervening space as both metaphor and concept. The necessity of this space as a realm of possibility, but also as an origin or precondition: for separation, distance, abstraction, ambiguity, and powerlessness.

The exhibition consists primarily of a selection of painted objects created on and from resources found on Hovedøya in the Oslo Fjord. The works possess an inherent material connection to the site.

The exchange between places:place and non-place, is a quintessential Land Art concept. The displacement of material—as an ecological thought —manifests here with painting acting as both body and medium.

The interstitial space—the conceptual and concrete gallery space located in Sagene—forms a temporary extension of the island fieldwork, creating a space of possibility for connection and
communication.
