A Picture Goes Around the World: Guernica and the (Shattered) Power of a Masterpiece
Dag Erik Elgin, Uwe Fleckner, Emir KusturicaAs part of Dag Erik Elgin’s exhibition BOMBA, art historian Uwe Fleckner—who has published extensively on Pablo Picasso’s Guernica—will discuss the painting in a wide-screen, cinematic perspective. The event will also include a screening of Emir Kusturica’s Guernica from 1978, the first film by the director and it was his graduation thesis from the Prague Film School. It deals with Nazism seen from the eyes of a child and is a precursor to Kusturica’s later films, dealing with themes such as the absurdities produced by war and entangled family relations. Fleckner’s lecture is titled “A Picture Goes Around the World: Guernica and the (Shattered) Power of a Masterpiece.”
