In the recently published book Verdensverk – Norsk verdenslitteratur etter 22. juli (2026), Tonje Vold, Professor of Nordic Literature at the University of Oslo (UiO), explores how the literary landscape in Norway has shifted following the terrorist attacks in the Government Quarter and on the island of Utøya. Vold describes the literature that emerged after July 22 as political, transnational, and world-oriented. She suggests that the terrorist attacks can be understood as a critical event that transformed both how authors write and how readers interpret literature, and the frames of reference through which it is understood. Vold suggests that we are seeing a more diverse body of literature, one that brings a different version of Norway into the public sphere.
