On show in Paléhaven, Christian Frederiks plass, Oslo Central Station
Sivert Donali's play sculpture «Snail» (1969) is one of four surviving snail sculptures. Owned by the City of Oslo Art Collection, the sculpture has been played on, in, and around for over 50 years. Its striking colours create a focal point in Paléhaven, drawing curious passersby into the space amongst the trees. Here, the sculpture might also further reflections on loss of biodiversity and caring for nature and art. Snail is an artwork that many nourishes a relation to, and with its new placement in Paléhaven, it might also stimulate conversations across generations.
Snail is part of a collaboration between Mesén and the City of Oslo Art Collection to showcase sculptures still awaiting their designated location. Through this collaboration, some will be reunited with artwork they have not seen in a long time, while others will experience them for the first time.
