ART IN BATTLE is a project about art, ideology and politics. Norway hosted the only known exhibition of so-called “degenerate art” outside the Third Reich, and this serves as the project’s starting point. This exhibition, called "Art and Non-art", had its predecessor in several of Nazi Germany’s official art exhibitions. ART IN BATTLE puts the manifestations of the Nazi art view and politics in context, to examine which conditions apply for art and art institutions when used in battle.
