Hans/Jean Arp & Sophie Taeuber-Arp: Friends, lovers, partners
Hans/Jean Arp, Sophie Taeuber-ArpThe artist couple played a central role in the development of abstract art in the 20th century.
Hans/Jean Arp and Sophie Taeuber-Arp challenged the boundaries between applied and fine art, working across a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, textiles, design, and literature. While they had distinct artistic careers, they also created works together from their first meeting in 1915 until Taeuber-Arp’s sudden death in 1943. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience Taeuber-Arp’s colourful and geometric abstract works alongside Arp’s biomorphic forms, collages, and sculptures.
The exhibition is a collaboration with Bozar Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels and is curated by Walburga Krupp in partnership with Caroline Ugelstad. Krupp is a leading expert on the lives and works of Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Hans/Jean Arp.
