Sofie Amalie Klougart takes the audience on a kind of modern pilgrimage to the Holy Land – a geographical and spiritual crossroads of immense significance for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The area is steeped in history and symbolism, but also in long-standing political and religious conflicts. Her photographs balance between the documentary and the artistic. The images range from grand, almost mythological landscapes to intimate and sensitive studies of detail. This visual language allows space for reflection, ambiguity, and wonder, mirroring the contrasts between the everyday and the sacred, the historical and the contemporary.
Sofie Amalie Klougart (b. 1987) lives and works in Copenhagen and Møn. She is educated as a photojournalist from the Danish School of Media and Journalism (2013) and has a broad practice as a photo editor, educator, freelance photographer, and artist.
