Is spirituality a way to temporarily escape from our realistic dystopia, or is it a way to
work on a change of material realism? Does heaven replicate the image of a utopian
society, or is the struggle towards utopia inspired by the idea of heaven?
In this duo show, Esra Düzen and Lykourgos Porfyris are discussing the ideas of
dialectic materialism, religious dogmatism, cultural domination, and spiritual
colonialism. Both artists are making new myths beyond dominant narratives, through
the recreation and reinterpretation of stories embodied in various forms of legendary
oral or written storytelling.
Through their works "The Wailers" and "Prayers for Togetherness” and Other Beautiful Cringe" the duo invite for a collective ritual of praying and crying for one last time.
